The key to glowing skin…

Now this isn’t rocket science, your skin cells take an average of 30 days to turnover… So essentially you need to get that dead crap off your face to make way for the new shiny bits coming through underneath. I mean it’s not that literal but you get the jist..

You have to EXFOLIATE! Even the most sensitive skin needs to exfoliate. I know that when people think exfoliation it drums up imagines of big microbeads and painful scrubbing but fear not…

Massive rule #1

Do not (I REPEAT DO NOT!) use a coarse grainy exfoliator if you suffer

from OILY SKIN!!!

This is literally the worst thing you could do to your skin. I’m sure when you use them you have one day of feeling like your skin is finally free, no excess oils and then the next day its like “What is going on?!” – its back with a vengeance. Thats because when these textured ingredients make contact with your skin they overstimulate the glands that produce Sebum (The oil that is on overdrive and sits on your pores) and make it worse!

Now, I personally don’t suffer from oily skin but one brand I know which has a beautiful exfoliator is this:

Voya-Luminosity

1.Voya Luminosity £39

This product contains seaweed and pineapple enzymes that work to break down the dead skin cells on your face to leave it feeling refined and radiant. It’s an active mask so you apply to clean and cleansed skin, leave it on the skin 5-10 minutes (your face with get a little warm and will probably get a little red but its just the ingredients getting to work) and then remove with a muslin cloth rinsed with lukewarm water (Not boiling!) This doesn’t mean only oily skin sufferers are able to use this product, it can be used for all skin types. Thats the joy with natural skincare, it’s never going to contain much that will upset or ittitate the most sensitive of skin.  You’ll use this maybe twice a week so although £40 seems like a lot of money it’s the cost of beautiful radiant skin for 6 months.   I would recommend trying some samples of it before you commit to any purchase.

Now, as you know Im more on the Dry/Sensitive spectrum and the nicest exfoliator I’ve tried so far has been this.. shocker…its another Liz Earle Product. (Hey! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it) I was always a little cautious about facial exfoliators because of my skin sensitivity, I thought it would have been too much for my skin but the difference even the next day is incredible!!

2. Liz Earle Gentle Face Exfoliator £16.50

I use this once a week when i can see a few dry patches starting to show and always at nighttime. Don’t go exfoliating and then slathering on your makeup after, you want to nourish and calm the new cells that are now on the front line! Protect these babies until the next exfoliation.

My cousin sent me home from the states last year with a little Burts Bee’s care package, and in amongst it was this beautiful facial scrub (Spoiler alert I actually use it for my body – Soz Siobhan but it is actually amazing!) The exfoliating element is ground down Peach stone and the willow bark is jam-packed with Salicyllic Acid – ( not to get into the science but it helps to loosen the skin molecules so they break up easier during exfoliation)
